Dubai Customs at Port Rashid succeeded on Wednesday night 15/10/2008 in preventing the smuggling attempt of 50 000 Dhs forged notes in addition to 100 USD.
A Port Rashid inspector in the passengers section has suspected a passenger arriving by sea from one of the Asian countries while examining passengers' suitcases through X-Rays device where he caught sight of some paper parcels hidden carefully inside the suitcase pockets. Thanks to his wide experience in body language and weird passengers' behaviors, the inspector had suspected the content of the suitcase and referred it to the manual inspection for examination; an inspection officer at Port Rashid consequently opened the suitcase in front of its owner.
After inspecting the suitcase, the officer found five parcels of cash money one of each containing 100 Dhs which were found to be forged after being examined by the counterfeited currency device.
On the other hand, the inspection of the passenger hand bag revealed the presence of a 100 USD which was found to be forged as well post-examination.
Subsequently, Dubai Customs has taken the necessary measures and retained the seized money and on the basis of the coordination and liaison with Dubai Police Headquarters, the suspect was referred to the competent security forces for action.
